In Victorian London, six-year-old orphan Ella possesses an extraordinary gift: she can hear the thoughts of animals. Following her late mother’s final wish, she arrives at the Royal Menagerie in search of her biological father. But no sooner does she set foot there than Caesar, the resident male lion, accidentally swallows the precious pocket watch her mother left behind. Ella stays at the menagerie as a young helper, working odd jobs while secretly using her ability to communicate with wild animals to investigate the men around her. Before long, she begins to suspect that Adrian, the menagerie’s cold and mysterious superintendent, may actually be the father she has been searching for.
