Karen, a housewife married to Tom, a wealthy lawyer, is out having an affair when their house catches fire and their five-year-old daughter, Anna, falls and is critically injured. Kind-hearted Mary accompanies the fire truck, driven by Captain Bob, to rush Anna to the hospital for emergency surgery. On the way, the fire truck accidentally scrapes Karen's car as she is returning from her tryst. Obsessed with her damages, Karen blocks the truck, demanding an apology and compensation. Despite the desperate pleas of Mary, paramedic Eva, and bystanders, Karen refuses to budge, completely unaware that the child dying inside the truck is her own daughter.
