Top defense lawyer Alexander Hale has never lost in years of practice. Colleagues call him “the Grim Reaper of the legal world.” He appears to free the powerful from criminal charges, but secretly donates every penny he earns to the Hale Justice Foundation, which has funded legal aid for more than three thousand victims unable to afford lawyers over fifteen years. Twenty years ago, Hale defended an innocent man in court and secured his acquittal. A gang hunted him for ten years. After his wife died, he was left to raise their daughter, Clara Hale, alone. Twenty years later, Victor Blackwood, son of New York’s richest man, Charles Blackwood, throws his family’s power around with impunity. After encountering Clara Hale and her husband, Daniel Miller, at a restaurant, Victor tortures them both. Hale arrives, abandons the defense bench, takes the plaintiff’s side, and faces his former student Ethan Reynolds—who betrayed him—in court. Even after Charles and Ethan frame him and the FBI investigates him, ninety-nine lawyers volunteer to defend Hale at his darkest hour. In the end, Ethan goes to prison, while Charles Blackwood is convicted and imprisoned for the tragedy twenty years earlier. Justice prevails.

I literally could not stop watching! The cliffhanger at the end of this episode had me holding my breath.

The acting and pacing are top notch for a short drama. That confrontation scene was unforgettable!
