After daughter-in-law Jiang Chun gets pregnant, her malicious mother-in-law Li Laidi, obsessed with superstition, forces her to take 'male-fetus medicine' (actually cephalosporin) and blocks prenatal checkups. Son Zhao Weiguang, an executive working away, returns home suddenly and suffers anaphylactic shock after accidentally consuming the drug intended for his wife. Influenced by gambling friends, the mother-in-law falsely accuses the daughter-in-law of infidelity, obstructs emergency care, resulting in the son's death and the daughter-in-law's miscarriage from abuse. Truth revealed, the father-in-law paralyzes the mother-in-law in a rage and goes to prison for intentional injury. Jiang Chun leaves the Zhao family with her surviving child, taking only a portion of the recovered money.
