College senior Anna Reed works three part-time jobs to support her "broke boyfriend" Lucas Sterling for two years. Her world collapses when she overhears the truth outside a private club: Lucas is the wealthy heir of the Sterling family, who has been pretending to be poor and treating her as a stand-in for his long-lost first love Victoria Marsden. Heartbroken after the breakup, a distracted Anna is nearly hit by a car owned by Julian Sterling, Lucas' 24-year-old uncle and CEO of Sterling Group. Seeing a chance for revenge, she rents Julian's neighboring apartment and interns at his company. Genuine feelings gradually grow between them amid daily interactions and shared meals, making Anna forget her original plan. When her initial motive is exposed, trust breaks down, but Julian chooses Anna over his business empire and family inheritance.
