Emily, a minimum-wage janitor with a sick daughter to care for, unexpectedly marries her ex-boyfriend Mark Cardmon, twenty years after he disappeared and changed his appearance due to a car accident. However, neither Emily nor Mark suspects they are the people they once knew as they fall in love all over again. As Mark helps Emily's daughter, Selene, with her surgery and protects Emily from toxic coworkers, he gradually realizes that Emily is his past love and Selene is his daughter.
