The year my father’s affair caused my mother to die of a broken heart, I hated him to the core. To win my favor, he even sent Victor Young, the man I’d loved for ten years, to my bed. I became the most pampered pregnant woman in Beverly Hills. Every check-up, they waited in the hospital corridor. Everyone said I was treated like a princess by both husband and father. But on the day of the big ultrasound, no one came. 'We have an important project to discuss,' my father said gently, stroking my hair. Victor Young rubbed my belly, 'I’ll buy you and the baby gifts when I’m back.' I smiled and watched them leave. Before the exam, I received a cryptic video. In it, my father wore a groom’s suit, standing next to Morgana Ashford, the woman who caused my mother’s death. Beside her, her illegitimate daughter with a pregnant belly wore a wedding dress, arm-in-arm with Victor Young. 'Double celebration!' someone toasted. 'Congrats to Mr. Hunter on finding true love, and to Mr. Young on finding the perfect partner!' At the end, my father’s voice whispered, 'Your fake marriage contract with Emily means nothing. The child becomes illegitimate anyway.' Victor laughed, 'Emily has everything; Isabella grew up illegitimate. I can't bear her child facing the same fate.' I bit my lip to hold back tears while leaving the hospital. Suddenly, my phone vibrated. A sterilization certificate popped up with a message: 'As long as you are willing, the child in your womb will be the only heir of my life'.
