When my father's affair drove my mother to her death, I hated him deeply. To appease me, he sent Victor Young, the man I loved for ten years, into my bed. After one night, I was completely smitten. Persuaded by him, I forgave my father three months later. Shortly after, I became pregnant. From then on, I was the most pampered pregnant woman in Beverly Hills. At every check-up, both waited in the hall. Everyone said I was treated like a princess by my husband and father. But on the day of the big ultrasound, neither showed up. 'We must discuss an important project,' my father said gently, stroking my hair. Victor caressed my belly. 'Afterwards, I'll bring gifts for you and the baby.' I smiled and watched them leave. But shortly before the check-up, I received an anonymous video. My father was in a wedding suit, standing next to Morgana Ashford – the woman responsible for my mother's death. Beside them stood her heavily pregnant, illegitimate daughter in a wedding dress, holding Victor's arm. 'To double happiness!', someone cheered in the video, raising a glass. 'Congratulations to Mr. Hunter on true love and to Mr. Young on this perfect match!' At the end of the video, my father's voice could be heard softly: 'Your fake marriage to Emily doesn't count. When the baby is born, it's illegitimate.' Victor laughed softly. 'Emily has everything, and Isabella grew up illegitimate. I can't let her child suffer the same fate.' I bit my lip and suppressed my tears as I left the clinic. Then my phone vibrated. A sterilization certificate appeared on the screen with the message: 'When you are ready, the child in your womb will be my only heir.'
